Redding West Rotary’s Silver Anniversary Celebration

 1984 to 2009

April 14, 2009

Riverview Golf and Country Club

Redding, California

One hundred members, distinguished visitors, and honored guests joined the festivities to celebrate Redding West Rotary’s Silver Anniversary at a dinner meeting planned and presented by Jay Gibson and the Past Presidents Council.

It was an unforgettable evening.  The Past Presidents told touching and amusing stories of their years and shared insights about the Club’s history.  Photographic records were displayed on screens and monitors.  Charter members were introduced and applauded.  Informal conversations with new and long-time friends were memorable.

Almost 20 of our past presidents were in attendance.  Other honored guests included

Assistant Governor Larry Champion and Susan Champion;

District Governor-Elect Earl Kilmer;

District Trainer 2009-2010 Laura Day;

President Pat Corey and Bernice Corey, Rotary Club of Redding;

President Elect Terry Quibell and Shirley Quibelll, Rotary Club of Redding East;

President Debra Smith, Rotary Club of Redding Sunrise; and

President Clint Snyder and Jessica, Rotary Club of Anderson.

We also acknowledged some “firsts” in the 2008-2009 year:

·        Our first Ambassadorial Scholar, Danika Swanson, has received her assignment in India,

·         Our first Interact club, coordinated by Dick Arneson, is being chartered with 32 members,

·         Our first District Simplified Grant is helping to fund the Buenaventura Trail Project under the direction of Project Manager Jim Stoll and the Steering Committee.  Another grant was awarded by the City of Redding, the California Conservation Corps is volunteering time and help.

·         Our first matching grant for a project in Africa was funded by The Rotary Foundation for a blood bank in Nigeria with Safe Blood Africa and support from 8 other Rotary Cubs in the District.

Thank you, Jay Gibson and Past Presidents for the entertaining history of our Club’s accomplishments, anecdotes, photographic and video memorabilia, and other reminders of the past quarter century and for the leadership and guidance that you continue to provide.
